Slash your energy bills with ENERGY STAR appliances

Replacing a refrigerator from the 1980s with an ENERGY STAR qualified model can save over $100 each year on your utility bills.  Replace a fridge from the 1970s and save nearly $200 each year!

Use the ENERGY STAR Savings Calculator to find out exactly how much money you'll save by replacing your existing refrigerator.

ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers use about 30% less energy and use over 50% less water than regular washers.  Many qualified clothes washers also have a greater capacity than conventional models, meaning fewer loads of laundry.

If you purchased your freezer before 1993, it is costing you an extra $35 each year on your utility bills compared to a new ENERGY STAR qualified model.  If you bought it in the 1980s, it's costing you an extra $70 each year!

ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers use advanced technology to get your dishes clean while using less water and energy.  They are, on average, 10% more energy efficient than non-qualified models.

Terms & Conditions

Rebates are only available to consumers who replace an existing appliance with a new ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer, dishwasher, freezer, or refrigerator.

Arrangements for haul-away of the old unit should be made through retailers at the time of purchase or through municipal, private, or electric utility recycling services.

Only products purchased from participating retailers on September 24, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. or until funds are exhausted are eligible for rebates.  Rebates are limited to one per product category per customer. Rebates are applied at the point of sale as a 15% discount ($250 per item cap) on the eligible product.

Each customer must sign a copy of the program Terms and Conditions before receiving their rebate at a participating retailer.   This signature indicates that he or she accepts these Terms & Conditions and certifies this appliance purchase replaces an existing appliance, which will be properly hauled away.

The Fine Print

• This is an appliance replacement program.  Customers must complete a self certification form attesting that the appliance purchased is for replacement purposes.
• The purpose of the ARRA funds is to aid residential customers. As such, customers paying with a corporate credit card, corporate check, or corporate buying accounts are not eligible. Retailers will have the right to refuse to have the appliances delivered to a place of business. Furthermore, only residential-scale equipment is eligible.
• Only Illinois residents are eligible for these rebates.  Home zip code must be supplied at point of purchase.
• Rebates will only be available for the period announced, not before or after. Pre-sales will not be allowed for any of the qualifying replacement appliances.  All Sales must be both initiated and made by customers in the store on September 24, 2010.
• The rebate program is for in-store sales only.  On-line sales are not eligible for a rebate.
• There is a limit of one appliance of a specific type per visit.  For example, a customer buying two qualifying refrigerators would only receive one rebate.
• Disabled individuals physically unable to make their purchases in-store may do so by calling a participating retailer.  NOTE: This is ONLY for persons physically unable to make their purchases in-store. The State reserves the right to revoke any and all rebates made by individuals violating or misusing this stipulation.
• This program is administered by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.  DCEO is also coordinating with Illinois’ electric and natural gas utilities, the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, and the Citizens Utility Board.
